New Years Eve 2015

Tonight was a time to reflect on my goal of a picture a day. I fell somewhat short - life does have a tendency to get in the way of well made intentions. A lot of pictures were taken, some increasing my photography skills, some a reflection of my life events - All memories of what a wonderful year I had in 2014.

A night at the Zoo!

Every year the Zoo does a week long celebration where they light up the zoo. I arrived late, so had somewhat of a limited selection of which to take pictures , beautiful at any rate. So many colors, so many combinations.

My first attempt at using a slow shutter speed. I made many attempts and adjustments, but was finally happy with the results. The settings for these pictures.

2014 Holiday Train

The Holiday Train comes each and every year collecting food for the local food banks. They usually stop for 1/2 hour and provide the hosting community with a great family event, providing entertainment. This year I was unable to get to the stopped location, so I caught the train as it was passing thru town. Somewhat of an abstract...

Today we had a wonderful girls out day. Took my Mom b/f Rhoda to the Polar Bear event at the Muttart Conservatory. What a wonderful display of Pointsettas.

Black & White Photo Walk

Goals for this photowalk to search for contrast and textures that would create great black and white photos.
We walked from 104th ave to 109th ave in Edmonton Alberta.

Sunset on Highway

On my way back home. I was treated to a very colorful sunset along Highway 1, near Medicine Hat. The picture was taken with my Nokia Lumina 800 Windows cell phone.

Prairie Squall

Light snow and wind can cause fast changing weather here on the prairies. The wind came up today and these picture were taken within a 10 min. period. The onset of the wind was sudden. The view is from my bedroom window at my Moms house, in Weyburn.

Day 2 of Winter

It snowed/sleet yesterday and I believe that it is here to stay. I took this picture of the frost on my patio doors.

First Snow Fall

Today was the first snow fall. We didn't get much, just a little reminder from Mother Nature to get ready.

October Photo Walk

I joined my "Shutterbug" Photo group for a photo walk. It was a chilly day, but the fresh air and exercise felt pretty good. Welcome to the White Mud Creek Ravine.

A passing biologist, pointed out this fungus bracket for me? Funny thing as it was right at my feet and I had just announced to them that I was heading into the trees looking for fungus..I guess I'm not as alert as I thought I was..

My favorite picture of the day. I loved the contrasting berries strewn amongst the forest floor. They were most likely dropped by squirrels and birds.

THE Ugly Duckling

Although not a beauty to the eye of the beholder, this fungal/mushroom is know as  Chaga mushroom (Inonotus obliquus) and is said to be rare and hold anti-cancer chemicals. It is making its way in the medical field as the New Hope! Very promising and again info from the passing biologist.Lots of great advantages to being out taking pictures
