Assiniboia Museum
This museum is a host for a number of interesting collections.
Some of the fantastic cars from the collection of J. D. Faquhar.
The 1964 Ampicar - land and water vehicle
Doll Uniform Collection - depicting uniforms throughout the hospitals of Sask at that time.
If you look closely you can see a fly on the leaf. I didn't see it when I took the photo - one has to love the surprises that photography sometimes unveils to us.

The Big Muddy
Early starts on road trips, do have their perks. Amazing sunrise this morning near Wood Mountain Provincial Park.
This is ranch country as the land isn't much good for anything else. Who can resist an old abandoned car?
The American border is only a couple miles from this view point. These valleys were a well know hang out for horse thieves and bank robbers back in the day. Traditional Native effigies & tee pee rings are also very prominent in this area.
This is a prayer pole. Many native people come to this spot from Canada and USA to pray for their ancestors. Ceremonial ribbons are tied around the pole.
Castle Butte
View of the valley north of Castle Butte.
After a long day of driving my last stop was the Petroglyphs located at St Victor, Sask. They are now fenced off to protect them, however normal weather patterns are gradually eroding those that are left. Look closely and you can see some of the remnants of stone carvings - animal paws, aliens etc.

Grasslands National Park
There are 22 known Prairie Dog colonies in Sask. This particular location has 2. They are vital to the ecosystem as they provide homes for other animals. The burrowing owl is one of these species.
What a cutie!
Roads are long and straight in this area.
This tee pee camp is one of the campsites in the area. Guided group camps can take you back in time to long days ago and give you the experience of what it must have been to live here at that time. Individuals are also welcome to camp here.
Beautiful Sunflowers are everywhere.
This is the 1911 homestead of Cowboy, Horse thief, American Artist and Author , Will James ( born as Ernest DuFault 1892.)

Ft Walsh, Sask
Ft Walsh,Sask. One of the first outposts of the North West Mounted Police, referred to as the Red Coats, due to the color of their uniforms.
This statue is located overlooking the fort.
National Parks famous Red Chairs. These chairs are strategically placed in all of Canada's National Parks.
A Red Coats bunk and uniform
I can go for miles and miles and miles and miles. One of the many long straight roads that are prevalent in the southern prairies.
A dock on Loch Leven, that is located in Cypress Hills National Park. Yes, The Red Chairs were there as well, but someone was sitting in them during my visit.
Some of the lovely flowers along side of the road.

ROAD TRIP SUMMER 2016
Today, I started on my summer road trip and as usual the scenery on the drive itself was well worth the time to stop. There is nothing more striking than canola in bloom and blue skies.
"Are you looking at Me?"
